Fusilli alla Puttanesca!


This super spicy, tangy and somewhat salty pasta sauce gets its name from the Italian word "puttana", meaning "whore". Made with garlic, tomatoes, black olives and onions, the Spaghetti alla Puttanesca ("Whore's Spaghetti") was a quick meal prostitutes could prepare between customers. It probably had something to do with the sauce's hot and spicy aroma. The exact origin of the name is highly debated, but either way it's an interesting story! :)

Try this 100% vegan pasta with fusilli instead of spaghetti and some mushrooms, corn and crispy capsicum thrown in for extra nutrients. It takes about 15 minutes to make from scratch- just saute some onions in olive oil, throw in some garlic, add some fresh tomatoes (two whirls in a blender should do it- a little lumpy is good), add salt, red chilli powder and let it cook for a few minutes. Add in the veggies and oh! don't forget to garnish with red chilli flakes!! :D
